Nancy O’Malley Speicher

 

Nancy O’Malley Speicher, 84, died peacefully Friday at Moses Taylor Hospital. She and her adoring husband, Jerry Speicher, who died in 1999, were married Oct. 12, 1946, in Scranton.

Born May 7, 1926, in Pittston, daughter of the late Vincent and Grace Leonard O’Malley, Nancy graduated from Scranton Central High School and Lackawanna Junior College. Nancy had a successful career as a district manager for Avon Inc. In the early 1990s, she and Jerry moved to Fort Myers, Fla., where they had 10 wonderful years playing golf and enjoying visits from family and friends and the warm companionship of new friends. After Jerry’s death, Nancy returned to Scranton, where she enjoyed her weekly bridge clubs, lunches and movies with her dear girlfriends. She was a voracious reader who cherished the many visits by her grandchildren.

She died surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Surviving are three sons and their spouses, Joe and Sue, Rockville, Md.; Tony and Linda, Dunmore; and Chris and Nan, Dunmore; two daughters, Mari and husband, Bob Ewart, Fort Washington; and Jerilyn and husband, Henri Gutner, Doylestown; two beloved nephews, Robert Lawless and wife, Patricia, Factoryville; and John Lawless and wife, Florence, Dunmore; 13 grandchildren and new great-granddaughter. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mariclare Lawless.

The family would like to thank Drs. Peter Cognetti and Chris Adonizio, who six years ago gave Nancy a second chance on life, and who were always patient, caring and loving.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Marion Chapel at the Schwartz Center for Spiritual Life at Marywood University.

Friends may call Saturday, 9:30 to 11, at the Marion Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Marywood University General Scholarship Fund, 2300 Adams Ave., Scranton, PA, 18509; or to the Nancy Kay Holmes Memorial Fund, Green Ridge Branch, Scranton Public Library, 500 Vine St., Scranton, PA 18509, in Nancy’s name.
