William Nowell

            William Nowell, Scranton, died Tuesday in the VNA Hospice Unit at the Community Medical Center after an illness. His wife of 64 years is the former Alice Tyler. The couple would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in November.
            Born in State Line, Pa. he was the son of the late John W and Florence Izer Nowell. He was a graduate of the Green Castle High School. He attended the Parker Hill Community Church. Prior to retirement he had been employed by the Eureka Printing Company in the shipping and receiving department, by PNC Bank in the maintenance department, and also as a painter throughout Lackawanna County. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during World War II. He participated in the D Day Invansion in Europe.
            Also surviving are daughters Barbara Hapeman of Scranton and Leanne Porterfield of Lancaster; a son John of Clarks Summit; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
            He was preceded in death by brothers Charles, George, Glenn and Ralph; sisters Ida, Mary and Gladys 
            Funeral services will be held Friday at 10am in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St Scranton
            Friends may call Thursday from 2-4 and on Friday morning from 9am until time of service.
            Interment with Military Honors in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
