Vincent Paul Brust

Vincent Paul Brust, 96, died on April 29th 2013 in the house in which he was born on Harrison Avenue, Scranton, Pa. on November 13, 1916.  His wife of 67 years is Ruth Saunders Brust.

His parents built the house in 1899 where, Vince, the 8th of 8 children, was born. He had made it clear in his later years that his final wish was to be able to die in his own home, the place of his birth and his home for the vast majority of his life. Vince married his surviving wife Ruth in 1946 and raised their four children in his cherished home.

He met and married his wife in Washington, D.C., while in service in the Navy. After completing his service, he accepted a position with Sears Roebuck, Inc. as an electronics technician, where he worked for 32 years. After retirement, he traveled extensively with his wife, including trips to China, Egypt and Russia.

He will be forever remembered as a man whose adherences to his values are an inspiration to all who knew him, and to which we can only aspire.

The family would like to thank the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for the wonderful care and compassion they provided for Vince and his family.

In addition to his wife, Vince is survived by his children Elaine Legate and Suzanne Woodyatt, both of Scranton;  Vincent Jr. of Olyphant and James of San Francisco;  his 7 grandchildren Joe Liberatore, Jr., Michele Legate-Kastreva, Mark Woodyatt, Holly Legate, Heather Finnerty all of Scranton and Benji and Danny Brust of Olyphant.

He was preceded in death by his seven siblings.

All who are attending the funeral are invited to go directly to the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10:30am by the Most Reverend James C. Timlin, D.D. Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of Scranton in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
