Alice Sokira Ruane

Alice Sokira Ruane, Roaring Brook Twp., passed away peacefully Saturday night surrounded by her loving family in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness. She was the widow of John J. Ruane, Jr. who passed away on January 28, 2004. At the time of his passing the couple had been married 53 years.
Born in the Belleview Section of Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Georgovitch Sokira. Alice was a graduate of West Scranton High School and was a devoted member of the Parish Community of St. Eulalia. For a time she worked at the Parodi Cigar Company and thereafter devoted herself to taking care of her family. Alice enjoyed working out at the Pro Fitness Health Club and in later years enjoyed being a part of the Life Geisinger Program.
Completely and tirelessly devoted to her family, Alice loved her family and God. She was a also a wonderful friend. If she was your friend she was your friend for life. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
Surviving are a son Richard and his wife Merrie of Roaring Brook Twp; a daughter Alyce Ruane and her partner Mary Ann Tarantino of Stroudsburg; a sister Pauline Eastman of Scranton; two granddaughters Rachel of Summerville, SC and Rebecca Ruane of Roaring Brook, Twp.; nieces and nephews; friends; and her two grandsons Cooper and Oliver.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son John J. Ruane, III who passed away August 5, 1990; a brother Henry Sokira; sisters Ann Brink, Millie Golden and Martha Kerschenheiter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30am in the Church of St. Eulalia 214 Blue Shutters Rd. Roaring Brook Twp., by Msgr. John Jordan, pastor.
All attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.
Interment, St. Catherine’s cemetery, Moscow.
