William W. Mentz, Daleville, died Saturday in the Regional Hospital of Scranton after a prolonged illness.
Born 1954 in Lebanon, PA he was the son of the late Carl A. and Margaret Bedford Mentz. Bill was a graduate of North Pocono High School and a member of the baseball team. Bill was an avid sports enthusiast and an advocate for little league baseball, coaching countless local teams. He was also a football fan and enjoyed watching Penn State and the Miami Dolphins. He was of the Methodist faith. Prior to his illness he was the co-owner of both BillDons Market in Dickson City and the Hill Market on Mulberry Street in Scranton, and also worked as the Meat Department Manager at Schiff’s Cash and Carry in Dickson City.
The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Mike King for the incredible care he gave to Bill in his final months.
Surviving are sons William of Daleville and Eugene and his companion Tabitha Bronsburg of Dunmore; his former wife Rose Caprio and her wife Sherry Strain of Dunmore; his brother Carl and his companion Cecelia Jamison of Glenmoore, PA; nephews Carl Edward and David Mentz; aunts; uncles; cousins.
All are invited to the funeral service and celebration of Bill’s life, which will take place on Wednesday evening at 7pm in the Duffy and Snowdon Funeral Home, 401 Church St. Moscow.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5-6:45pm and are encouraged to remain for the services.
Interment, private at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the donor’s favorite charity.
