Lucille Hennigan

Lucille Hennigan, Dunmore, died Saturday evening surrounded by her children in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit after a courageous battle with cancer. 

Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Richard and Olga Nycz Gilroy.  Lucy was a graduate of the Scranton Technical High School and the Empire Beauty School and had been employed by the Andre Duval Beauty Salon and had been most recently employed by the Cinram Corporation.  

Surviving are her daughter Erin James and her husband Christopher of Jefferson Township; sons Frank Hennigan and his companion Launi Petrylak both of Scranton and Richard of Arizona; brothers Richard and his wife Barbara, Jack and his wife Donna and PJ and his wife Patty; her beloved granddaughters, Grace and Claire James, for whom she fought so hard not to leave; her former husband Frank Hennigan of Dunmore; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister Joanne Gilroy.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Bannon, Dr. Meghan Haggerty and Dr. Jamie Stallman for their compassion, dedicated care and continued advocacy on behalf of Lucy throughout her illness.   Your kindness will never be forgotten.   Also the family is grateful to the staff and volunteers of the Hospice of the Sacred Heart for caring for Lucy in her final days in ways we could have never accomplished.

All attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton by Revs. Patrick McLaughlin and Joseph Sica.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family strongly encourages memorial contributions be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor 2500 Adams Ave. Scranton 18509 or to the Immaculate Conception Church (More Than Bricks Campaign) 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton 18510.

    Although I only recently met Lucy through the Y cancer program, I felt as though we knew each other for a lifetime… we always had some good laughs during our sessions,…. and we forgot about our aches and pains .. she was certainly a memorable person whom I will miss … may she rest in pease …. You have lost a wonderful person … God bless all of you !!!
