Jude R. Portanova

Jude R. Portanova, a resident of the Golden Living Center, died Thursday morning after a long illness.

Born 1962 in Scranton, he was the son of the late Thomas and Concetta “Blanche” DePietro Portanova.  He attended Dunmore Schools.  He and his mother always had a special bond and the family takes great comfort in the fact that they are reunited. He loved listening to country music with his brother Joe.

Jude was a kind, friendly and loving person who truly loved everyone.  He was the mayor of Golden Living, he knew everyone and everyone knew him.  He even knew the schedules of the staff.

Joe and Tom would like to thank the administration and business office, therapy and dietary departments, CNAs, and nurses of Golden Living Center.    A special thank you would also like to be given to Dr. Daniel Kazmierski and the staff of the Compassionate Care Hospice especially Mona, Erin, Betty Koza and Rev. Dennis Gray for their kind and compassionate care. Lastly, a heartfelt thank you to Rev. Joseph Sica for being there for the family through their darkest hours.

Surviving are his devoted brothers Joseph of Scranton and Thomas of Dunmore; niece and nephews Moriah and Richard Bechtold, Gregory, Brandon and Nicholas Hall; a great niece Lily Bechtold; as well as his roommates at Golden Living Joe and Reggie.

He was also preceded in death by his sisters Frances Portanova and Connie Holl; a brother in law Paul Holl; and his sister in law and best friend Donna Portanova.

A Blessing Service will be held Monday at 6pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton officiated by Rev. Joseph Sica.
