Joan Bonczkiewczi Schlacter

 Joan Bonczkiewicz Schlacter, a longtime resident of Allied Skilled Nursing Facility, Scranton, died Wednesday night in the facility after an illness.   She was the widow of her first husband John Bonczkiewicz who died in 1984 and her second husband John Schlacter who died in 2008.

 
Born 1940 in Taylor, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Frances Gach Gryzbowski.   She was a graduate of the former Mill City High School.  Joan was a devout Catholic who loved the rosary.  Prior to her retirement she had been employed by the Clarks Summit State Hospital.
 
Surviving are her daughters Marie Evans and her husband Bruce and Rita Hughes all of Scranton;  sisters Leona McIntyre, Teresa Bonczkiewicz and Maryann Minnier;  six grandchildren;  eleven great grandchildren;  numerous nieces and nephews.
 
She was preceded in death by her granddaughter Brooke Hughes;  a son John Bonczkiewcz;  son in law Michael Hughes;  a brother Frank Grzybowski and a sister Kay Holgate.
 
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday at 10am in teh Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. Scranton by the Rev. Joseph Sica.
 
Friends may call Wednesday morning from 9am until time of Mass at the church.
 
Interment, St Joseph’s Cemetery, Montdale.
 
In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contributions be made to the Allied Skilled Nursing and Rehabiliotation Center Resident Activity Fund 303 Smallacombe Dr. Scranton, PA 18508.
 
Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Ash St. Scranton.

    Joan was the dearest friend anyone could ask for. She always had a smile on her face despite her many crosses. I will miss Joan every day.
