Arlene J. Biemuller, a resident of Willowbrook Place, Clarks Summit, formerly of West Scranton, died Saturday afternoon in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after being stricken ill. She was the widow of Wilhelm “Wil” Biemuller who died in 2017. The couple had been married 56 years.
Born 1934 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Scranton Fire Department 1st. Lt. Luther and Margaret Brace Hughes and was a graduate of West Scranton High School and the American Institute of Banking. She was a member of the Jackson Street Baptist Church, West Scranton. Prior to her retirement she had been employed as a loan officer at the former Third National Bank. After her retirement she worked part time as a secretary for Atty. Dan Kelleher.
Arlene enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing poker with her card club. She also enjoyed traveling to Germany with her husband. Her dog Sandy and beloved cats held a special place in her heart.
Surviving are several nieces Shirley Hughes Coppola of Verona, New Jersey, Carol Morgan Brogan of Clarks Summit, Dianne Morgan Musgrave and her husband William of Scranton and Sherri Morgan Maher of Clarks Summit; nephews Dr. Louis Adamo and wife Cathy of Dunmore and Frank Adamo and wife Marion of Scranton; several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her brother 1st. Lt. Jack Hughes, KIA-World War II; sisters Margaret Hughes and Jane Morgan.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at Noon in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Elliott Cooke, Pastor of the Jackson Street Baptist Church.
Friends may call Wednesday from 11am until the time of service in the funeral home.
All CDC guidelines including the mandatory use of facial coverings and proper social distancing will be strictly enforced. Temperature checks will also be given upon entering the funeral home.
Interment, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
In lieu of flowers the family asks donations be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter 967 Griffin Pond Rd. South Abington Twp. PA 18411.
