Michael Mayer

Michael Mayer, Sparta, New Jersey, passed away Tuesday morning at home surrounded by his loving family and his faithful dog, Bearbie.  His wife of 35 years is the former Kathy Devers.

Born 1959 in Wetswood, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Henry and Gloria DiMaggio Mayer and was a graduate of Emerson High School.  Mike was the co-owner of the Treptow Floor Covering Company in Fairfield, New Jersey since 1987.   Mike had a passion for ice hockey.  He played on the Hitmen and Relic teams and coached The Blues and The Kings for many years.  He was a devoted New York Rangers fan.

Mike will be forever missed by his family.  He had a passion for cooking and sharing dinners with his family and friends and he enjoyed family vacations in the Outer Banks.

Also surviving are his daughter Emily Mayer; sons Daniel and Matthew Mayer; his sister Lorraine Mayer-Audy; his mother in law Jeanne Manley Devers; brother in law Kevin Devers and his wife Joanne;  nieces Miranda Audy, Kristina and Alyssa Devers;  aunts, uncles, cousins and countless friends.

He was also preceded in death by his nephew Brian Manthey and his father in law Patrick J. Devers.

Due to the Covid19 pandemic, graveside services will be private at the convenience of the family in Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

A public service will be announced when restrictions are lifted.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Mike’s memory to the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry 32 Main St. Sparta, NJ 07871.
