Thomas Haggerty, 78, lifelong resident of the Hill Section, dies Saturday February 26 at home with his loving family.
Born August 28, 1943 in Philadelphia, son of Thomas & Catherine Ruddy Haggerty. He was a graduate of Chapel School, Cathedral High School class of 1961 and the University of Scranton class of 1965. He was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church. Tom began his business career with the Burroughs Corporation, then with James McDonnell Business Forms before beginning his own business Haggerty Business Forms. Tom served as a member of the 109th Infantry Regiment of the Pennsylvania National Guard.
Tom enjoyed fishing, especially on trips to Canada with his buddies, woodworking, time spent with family, and sitting on the front porch keeping watch on the neighborhood.
He is survived by his childhood sweetheart and loving wife Liz Blomberg Haggerty; his children Kathleen of Malvern PA, Timothy and his wife Meghan of Holmdel NJ, and Molly Scocozzo and her husband Vito of Scranton PA; grandchildren Vito Scocozzo, Catherine and Timmy Haggerty; sisters in law Eileen Haggerty, Dunmore, and Theresa Haggerty, Jessup.
He was also preceded in death by brothers James and Neil, infant son Thomas, and mother in law Rosemary Blomberg.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in the Immaculate Conception Church 801 Taylor Ave. by Rev. Patrick Mclaughlin, pastor.
All attending the Mass are asked to go directly to the church.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton.
Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made in Tom’s memory to St. Joseph’s Center 2010 Adams Ave. Scranton, PA 18509
