Mr. John “Jack” Lovering, Scranton, passed away Monday in the Mountain View Care and Rehabilitation Center in Scranton after an illness.
Born July 15, 1927, in Scranton, he was the only child of the late Walter and Marguerite Phillips Lovering. Prior to his retirement, John lived in Brooklyn, New York and spent 35 years as a junior executive in the controller‘s office of the Automobile Club of New York, New York City. He was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member of the Parish of St. Peter’s Cathedral where he enjoyed attending Mass daily. He served our country honorably in the United States Navy.
Jack was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He was a lover of the arts and enjoyed operas. He will deeply missed by those who were blessed to have known him.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of the Mountain View Care and Rehabilitation Center for the wonderful care they afforded Jack during his time there. They would also like to thank Maryann Noto and her husband, Ron, and Bonnie Sammon and her husband, Hank, for their visits, companionship and meals they provided Jack.
Surviving are his cousin, Roger Phillips and his wife, Cheryl, Scranton, and their family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. Peter’s Cathedral, 315 Wyoming Ave., Scranton, by the Rev Jeffrey D. Tudgay, pastor.

He Always had a Big Smile on his face regardless of his pain or worries. A GREAT man to converse w/ on the telephone and he was full of “Secrets!!!” Jack, we LOVE YOU DEARLY and you are and will be surely MISSED. May GOD BLESS you + give you HIS PEACE.
