Joseph P. Penzone

Joseph P. Penzone, Peckville, died Saturday morning with his family by his side in the Geisinger Community Medical Center after an illness.  His beloved wife of 55 years is the former Elizabeth “Betty” Mark.

Born 1947 in Carbondale, he was the son of the late Joseph and Madeline Buonomo Penzone.  He was a 1963 graduate of the former St. Rose High School in Carbondale.  Joe went on to a long career in sales both at Sears Department store and in the insurance industry.  He served honorably in the Pennsylvania National Guard and as a reservist in the United States Army.

Joe loved the New York Yankees, New York Giants, Penn State Football, golfing, traveling, going to beach and a good Manhattan.  But more than anything he loved his wife and family. He will be deeply missed by those who were blessed to have known him.

Surviving are children Sandy Gaul and her husband Tim; Joe Penzone and his wife Karen; and Lisa Bailey and her husband Will; sister Mary Lou Richardson and her husband Chris; grandchildren Casey, Matthew, Isabella, Vincent, Brianna, Alana, William and Joshua; great grandchildren Aria, Ryder and William; two nieces; a nephew; a great niece; great nephews.

All attending the funeral are asked to go directly to the church.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Chapel 1605 Oram Street Scranton, PA 18504 by Rev. Richard Fox.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4-7pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash St. Scranton 18510.

Interment, Cathedral Cemetery, Scranton.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Elan Skilled Nursing and Rehab Resident Activity Fund 1101 Vine Street Scranton, PA 18510
