Alexander (Sandy) J. Leggat, III

Alexander (Sandy) Joseph Leggat III, 67, of Scranton, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2024, at home after a year long battle with cancer.

The son of the late Alexander Joseph Leggat, Jr, and Elizabeth Lenahan Leggat, he lived in Dunmore and Lehman, PA, as a child, and spent the rest of his life in Scranton. A graduate of Scranton Technical High School and the Lackawanna County Area Vocational Technical School, he spent his career in the HVACR trade. After decades working in the family business, A. Leggat and Company, he took a position with Lackawanna County maintenance where, among other things, he managed the ice rink at the stadium. He retired from Lackawanna County in 2016.

Sandy loved music, had an encyclopedic knowledge of rock music of his era, and was known for his love of cars. He founded a club for Challenger and ‘Cuda owners that became international. He spent his last year restoring a Triumph TR-3 his father gave him at age 14.

He is survived by his children Kristy Lee Williams, Dunmore; Alexander Joseph Leggat IV and partner Heather Lewak, Scranton; Timothy Leggat, Mount Cobb; Angela Lenner and husband Dan, Hegins; and Colin Leggat and partner Steven Saltisiak, Dickson City. He is also survived by his siblings Robert Bruce Leggat and wife Barbara, Myrtle Beach, SC; Ann Leggat, Dalton; and Frank Leggat, Scranton; and by 12 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held June 8, from 2-4pm in the Vanston and James Funeral Home 1401 Ash Street, Scranton.  All attending are asked to wear tie dyed shirts in honor of Sandy’s spirit!
