John J. Mazur, 80, of Roaring Brook Twp. died late Saturday night in the Hospice of the Sacred Heart Inpatient Unit in Dunmore. His wife was the former Grace Christine Santorsa who died on February the 4th 2000.
Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Anna Schott Mazur. He was a retired Master Sargent of the US Army Reserve, which he served in for over 30 years. He taught for over 20 years at the Career Technical Center in Scranton.
He was a life member of the NRA and was a former member and secretary of the Scranton Jaycees. He was a member of the St. Eulalia’s Parish in Roaring Brook Twp.
He was a loving husband, devoted father, and a phenomenal grandfather. He was also an avid camper at Lake Wallenpaupack and enjoyed hunting and fishing. John loved to spend time with his family and grandchildren. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart.
Surviving are two daughters Teressa Polinsky and her husband Joseph and Catherine Williams and her husband Jason all of Roaring Brook Twp., a son John Mazur, Jr. and his wife Catherine, Clarks Summit; a brother Michael Mazur, Scott Twp.; seven beautiful grandchildren Diana and Christina Polinsky, Emily and Christian Mazur, Grace, Ethan, and Brayden Williams; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers Edward, Stanley and Joseph Mazur.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10am in St. Eulalia’s Church, 214 Blue Shutters Rd Moscow Pa. 18444, by Msgr. John Jordan, pastor.
Entombment with military honors will be held in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
There will be no public viewing.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash St. Scranton Pa. 18510 and are under the care and direction of Robert C. Jones FD.
