Catherine Hannon Lennox, South Scranton, formerly of West Scranton, died Thursday at home. She was the wife of Ernest Lennox.
Born 1939 in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Mary McDermott Hannon. She was a graduate of St. Patrick’s High School and was of the Catholic faith.
Catherine was the baby and only sister of four older brothers and the apple of their eye. She was raised in West Scranton and was very proud of her Irish heritage, celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and enjoying the music of Luke Kelly and the Clancy Brothers. As matriarch of her family which includes 33 children, grand and great-grandchildren, she relished in their activities and accomplishments and was the ultimate family source of all information. In addition to her family, she dearly loved her dogs. Particularly difficult was the recent loss of her beloved shepherd, Seamus. Her wit, clever charm, and fierce love of family will be sorely missed.
Surviving are children, Laura Jones and husband, David, John “Jack” Lennox, Patti Vanston and husband, Jay, James Lennox and wife, Tracie, and EJ Lennox and wife, Katie; son-in-law, John Earl McElhenny; 16 grandchildren, John, Katie and Patrick McElhenny, Maggie Patchoski, Mary Clare Ryan, Christine Falbo, Elizabeth Bowen, Kathleen Grey, Meghan Gagorik, John F. Lennox, Melissa Lennox, Julia Davis Vanston, Jenna Vanston, Grace, Eddie and Jimmy Lennox; great-grandchildren, Mariella, Gwyenth, Theodore, Liam, Oliver, Corey, David, Benjamin, Max, Michaela and Nate; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Mary Kay Lennox McElhenny; siblings, Edward “Red” Hannon Jr., John “Jack” Hannon, Robert Hannon and Gerard “Jerry” Hannon.
Interment and services are private.
The family encourages memorial contributions be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Road, Clarks Summit, PA 18411, or the American Heart Association, attn. Northeast Pennsylvania, Box 3049, Syracuse, NY 13202.
