Lois Lynn (Griffiths) Shea

Lois L. Shea., 73, of South Gibson, passed away Saturday evening, January 14 in the Regional Hospital of Scranton after fighting a chronic illness.

Born October 28, 1949 in Carbondale, she was the daughter of the late Morgan and Marie Griffiths.  She was a 1967 graduate of Mountain View High School.  She started working as a teenager and worked many years as a waitress at several local restaurants and diners. In her later years she cleaned houses for a few clients in the area.  Her most cherished job was that of a wife, mother and grandmother to her husband, children and grandchildren.

Lois was a loyal, dedicated wife, mother, daughter, sister and friend.  She loved buying clothes and shoes. She enjoyed making family meals and desserts. Lois especially enjoyed the company and reconnecting with her girlfriends the last few years.

Surviving are sons James “Jamie” Shea, Jr. of Benton, Jonathan Shea and his wife Katrina of Union Dale; a daughter Melissa Lepre and her husband Ryan of Kingsley; her brothers James (Pauline), Kevin (Carol) and Kim (Shirley) and sisters Terry (Lowell), Christy (Ron) and Bonnie (John); her beloved grandsons Bryce, Conner, Benjamin and Brady; several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her loved, constant canine companion Max.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Morgan and Marie Griffiths and the love of her life, her husband Jim. Lois and Jim celebrated their 50 year wedding anniversary on August 16, 2019 shortly before his passing in September 2019.

In lieu of flowers the family encourages memorial contributions be made in Lois’s honor to the Susan G. Komen Cancer Foundation.

Arrangements have been entrusted to and are under the care and direction of the Vanston and James Funeral Home, Scranton.

Sending my greatest sympathies for the loss of your Mom. I got to know her when she began cleaning for me in 2008. She quickly became a most cherished, caring member of our family; over time, my three kids began to love her like a third grandmother. She never missed a birthday or Christmas for any of the kids! They were very upset when I told them the news. Lois was simply an angel to all of us, and we will deeply miss her.
